Racing game series' 1st smartphone title launches after delay
Nintendo began streaming on Tuesday a new video for the Mario Kart Tour game that reveals the app will launch for iOS and Android devices on September 25.
The game was originally planned for release in the last fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2019. Nintendo revealed in January that the game was delayed to this summer. The report said that the developers hope to improve the quality of the game and expand the content after launch.
Nintendo announced the app in February 2018 as a new game in the Mario Kart game series and the first in the series for smartphones. The game will be "free to start," and a Nintendo Account will be necessary. Nintendo is planning and developing the application while DeNA is responsible for the backend, such as servers, infrastructure, and analysis.
The latest game in the Mario Kart series is Mario Kart 8, which shipped for the Wii U in 2014. The game sold over 1.2 million copies during its opening weekend. The game received a Switch version titled Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in April 2017.
